Many of you know that my mother lives with Frank, the kids and I. She works evenings doing janitorial and watches the girls during the day. The girls, Zoe particularly, get excited when grandma comes home.
One of the nights late last week grandma came home through the back door into the kitchen. She comes up to the child gate separating the kitchen from the living room and greets everyone and Zoe runs up to talk to her. After a couple of minutes Zoe asks grandma if she would like hear her music. I am curious what she is going to do, will she sing or hum or what?
Grandma agrees and we all watch with anticipation as she proceeds to turn a 180......and farts!
Now where on earth did she learn that I asked looking at dad suspiciously. In conclusion, no one has taught her.
She also has a new bedtime excuse....I can't go to bed now because I am a night person, not a morning person.

Halloween
Here are some pix from the Autumn Fest this year. It was fun and the girls had a blast. We did trick or treating on Halloween too. Zoe kept on going while Lily and her friend were just plum tuckered out. I had to carry her her friend on my shoulders on our way back to the cars (poor thing was so tired). But Zoe was still going, although she slowed down about half way back. Zoe had to talk to some of the folks passing out candy and twice she pet their dogs {only her ;) }.
Oh and for those of you out of town who know Bishop Hansen, the last picture is his Hlloween theme this year. Last year was pretty good too. Can't wait to see what he thinks of next year. Might have to come up with one next year....just a little friendly competetion :D Hope you had a Happy Halloween!

Day 8
Well Lily's hand is doing better. I removed more of the dead skin from the blister today. It's still pretty red and looks really delicate, so I am keeping it wrapped up for now. Trying to give it some air so it will heal better and toughen up quicker.
When changing the bandages today, she was really protective of it after I left it unwrapped for a while. I am glad to see her do that, 'cause soon I am going to have to stop wrapping it up. I am just going to have to keep an eye on Zoe to be sure she is nice to her sister!
I am hesitant to keep it unwrapped, but I think I am gonna have to do it soon. Here is a couple pix of her hand now. Slowly but surely it's healing.

When Will They Learn
Well Lily sure hasn't let her hand slow her down! I am gonna need to keep my eye on this one for sure. She just started doing this a few days ago. I have since moved the table away from the couch and the chair away from the table so she can't get onto the table....at least when I am not looking!
Her hand is doing good. Still a bit of healing to go. We have removed some of the dead skin off her palm (ewww) so that her hand can heal better. Oh by the way, GO DUCKS!!!

What a nightmare
Well it happened, I was afraid it would. Lily got through the barricade a couple nights ago and touched the wood stove. My poor girl! I wasn't sure how bad she had touched it when I was holding her hand in cold water until a few minutes later. I felt horrible and helpless, she was crying and screaming. We had to take her to Urgent Care because it was blistering pretty bad on her palm and fingers.
I was so mad at the staff at Urgent Care. After we did the triage and checking in, we had to wait for almost 1/2 hour while she screamed the waiting room. I should have been more assertive and asked for them to give her something for the pain, not a mistake that I will make again! Finally into a curtain room....to wait some more. The Dr. comes in and looks at it. By this time she had fallen asleep. Now the poor thing is awake and crying again while we wait again for the nurse to get her some pain medicine. So an hour after arrival, I got her medicated and her hand wrapped up.
The Dr. said he doesn't think it will scar and there shouldn't be any problems with her hand functions. Already I have cut back on her medicine dosage, it has codeine so I don't want her to have to take it for too long. ( By the way, mixing it with chocolate syrup makes it go down easier!) I take her for a check up on Thursday.
Well if you are faint at heart, you might want to skip the first pic. The blister on her palm got bigger over night, but the ones on her fingers and thumb seemed to have gone down.
If you use a wood stove, make sure the little ones can't get to it, even if you have a barrier, like we do.

Sleeping away
She doesn't let her bandages get the way of doing things. Little trooper.
Pumpkin Patch Fun
Ah, it's that time of year again! The smell of fireplaces in the air, the warm apple cider and warm apple cider doughnuts, the overly priced tickets for the hay ride to the pumpkin patch and of course...the pumpkins. Even though I grew some smaller varieties this year, we still had to go out and find that large pumpkin. Ya know I still have the one from last year that I never got around to carving! Amazing really, and it's only now starting get mushy around the top.
Well here we are at Thistle Down with friends. It's a kind of tradition to go, but getting to be over priced. We had fun though. Zoe wandered all over looking at all the pumpkins. Lily was more interested in the mud and digging her fingers in it.
Here are the horses, so beautiful, Spike and Major.

Like Mother like Daughter
So the other day, Zoe kicked me, Lily and grandma out of Lily's room. She had her Build a Bear puppy dog and said she needed privacy so she could nurse her puppy in the rocking chair! Oh my! I am glad to know through a friend that she is not the only one. Tee hee

Exciting Day
Today I took the girls to Detering Orchards to pick apples. I have been wanting to go there for some time now (2+ years), but haven't made it out there until now! And I am so glad I did. It was wonderful. Rows of apple trees of different varieties and being out in the country. All I can say is ahhhh. The girls enjoyed themselves emensly and we got to visit some friends from church. They have remarkable prices, I thought I was going to be spening about $10 easy considering the prices at other farms and the Farmers Market. Boy was I wrong, try $5 for about 20 apples, and some the size of 2 fists. It was neat to meet the farm dogs, a couple of 10 year old yellow labs. Can't wait to go back for their Apple Daze next month! Looking forward to fresh warm cider at the farms.....yummy! Oh don't forget the warm apple cider doughnuts.
Well earlier tonight Frank helped Zoe pick some corn from the garden. They brought them in and both started to shed the husks. Frank warned Zoe she might see a bug while doing this. While I am in the other room I hear two blood curdling screams , the second longer than the first. It was attack of the pincher bug part 2. Only this time it just fell to the floor and got squashed. She got scared after that and didn't want to help with the corn anymore.
Goodness she is turning into such a girlie girl so fast. Well that Zoe for ya I guess.

What's new and new Family member
Friday 9-14-07
Meet Cody, (9-17: Her name has changed to Tiger now) as Zoe has so named her. She showed up on our porch Tuesday and has decided to stay. Not sure how old she is, around 3 months is my guess. She gets along great with everyone (except Bubba). Her and Smokey like to play quite a bit, it's fun to watch the old man play again.
Well no new Zoe anticks today, sorry. But I thought I would share a Zoe-ism.
~She calls grilled cheese sandwiches girl cheese~
Our garden has been doing really well. We planted tomatoes again, corn and pumpkins. Trying to keep things simple until we get more experience in the garden. The raspberries did really well this year and we got a few concord grape bunches this year. Hopefully next year the grapes will better. I poorly composted some pumkins from last year and got a variety of smaller pumkins from white to orange to gourds! I also planted some large pumkin seeds recently, we'll see if planted in time. The corn did better than I expected, I will definately be planting it again. Oh my the tomatoes.... so many! But the snails have been getting to them >:(
Well I am going to try to get a job at the hospital, despite the fact that I haven't been able to get into the class I wanted to take in coralation with the job. I just couldn't get the time slot scheduled I needed for the placement testing. Hopefully I can still get the job with the intention of taking the class next spring. That is all the is new here pretty much. Have a great weekend all!

New Word
8/20/07 So as Lily grows, so does the things she learns. She typically gets 1/2 a banana with breakfast, after all she is a monkey, climbing up everything. So this morning when grandma gave her the banana, without saying what it was, she says "manana" over and over.
Now with her new found word in her vocabulary, she will walk all over the house saying manana.

Birds and the Bees
8-16-07 So Zoe has been taking swim classes and she just started her 2nd session this week. She enjoys it alot and the kids in her class. So today (Wed) after swim class, just like every other time, I take her into the girls locker room to "shower" and change. I get her in the shower to wash her hair and we head across the room to an empty bench to get her dressed.
On the way over to the other side of the room she sees the little boy from her class, nekked (naked). As we are walking she says," Mom that's the boy from my swim class. What does that boy have?" Of course we all know what she is refering to.
I get her to the bench and gently explain that that is just what boys have. It's part of what makes a boy a boy. "Oh", she says. "Well can we go see it again?" (ahhh ) Oh my, can you believe she asked that?! Well as a 4 year old goes, and her being Zoe, yes of course I can. But I don't know who else might have heard.
Anyway, I tell her "No, we can not. It's not nice to look at other people that way and it's rude to stare." Oh my, don't think I was ready for that one. Guess I better start.
She is just too much!!

Only Zoe
7-15-07 Gotta love that Zoe. Her latest anctic is, getting stuck! So in the laundry room/bathroom, it's pretty small and tight fitting. If the dryer door is open the bathroom door will not close or open completely. Yup, you guessed it, somehow she got her head her stuck in the door, from the outside of the bathroom. Now mom has a hanging door rack on the inside of the door as a space saver. Well the dryer door was getting caught up on that and not closing so she could not move the bathroom door. I shoulda grabbed my camera, instead I got Frank and my mom. Hahaha.
I thought she was hangin out with Frank, but when I noticed she wasn't with him, I figured she was up to no good. I could see a sliver of the bathroom light shining on the wall and knew she was in the laundry room. As I got closer I could see her foot hanging out the door. No idea how long she was there and she never got upset or asked for help in any way. Hehehe.
So when she was finally freed, she says, " Whew, that was close". Thank goodness I have started a journal of these events and all the past ones I can remember, she is gonna love these when she gets older.

Ouch
On July 5th Frank and I went out to run some errands and the girls stayed home with grandma. The 3 of them went outside and Zoe was playing with the water octopus toy and started screaming. Apparently she was sucking on one of the hose tenticles and ended with a pincher bug in her mouth that pinched her tongue. What a riot.
